Who is Vicki?

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. My parents were public school teachers so a love for life-long learning, children, and teaching is in my DNA. I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in early childhood and elementary education. I have taught kindergarten, pre-kindergarten and reading recovery in TX and MN. My husband and I moved to Woodbury 25 years ago. We have raised 4 children, who all attended and graduated from the South Washington County Schools. For the past 4 years, I have been a substitute teacher in District #833. I am an active member of my church and have volunteered in a variety of areas, as well as at the schools my children attended.

  • Sunday School teacher

  • Wednesday night youth group leader & children's leader

  • Bible study leader

  • Classroom volunteer

  • Media Center volunteer

  • Chaperone for field trips

  • Band booster member and volunteer

  • Theatre booster member and volunteer, leading in a variety of positions from volunteer coordinator for the middle school theatre to co-leading the community donations and senior showcase committee for the high school theatre

  • Senior all-night party sub-committee co-lead

Now that my husband and I are new empty-nesters, I have more time to give back to our school community in which I raised my family.

Why Vicki?

With my background in education, along with having children that attended District #833, I have multiple perspectives from which to make decisions, problem solve, and help lead our school district into a promising future.

I am for child-centered decisions with parent choice and a common-sense approach. I have watched school board meetings, listened to budget hearings, and heard the voice of parents. I have seen how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected parent choices when advocating for their children. I believe the time is right for a new voice on the school board.

If elected, I will...

Advocate for Children

I will put ALL children first. All students needs must be considered when making decisions that will affect their future. We must support ALL students so they can become productive members of society.

Work for Parent choice

I believe parents know what is best for their children. They have the right to choose how to keep their children safe without schools usurping their authority. I believe that parents should also be able to easily access the curriculum being taught to their children.

Be Fiscally Responsible

As a taxpayer, I understand the need for tax dollars to be spent wisely. As a board member, I believe decisions about the budget need to be made with the goal of keeping high quality education in District #833 so that students can reach their full potential.

Restore trust

I will listen to parents and be receptive to your ideas and opinions regarding decisions that will affect your children. I believe constituents need to hear conversations between school board members regarding parent public comments. I will not ignore you or the policies and budget decisions that are concerning to you.
